Oh My God
I think the Tigers just became the Scariest Team in the AL, on paper at least. It does please me to say that, as Detroit is one of those teams I've always liked despite my allegiances elsewhere.
Granderson
Polanco
Cabrera
Magglio
Sheffield
Followed by some mix of Pudge, Guillen, Renteria, and Jacque Jones. They were last year's #2 offense in the AL before they picked up Miguel Cabrera, who is reportedly working hard and losing weight this winter. Is that an All-Star at every position?
The rotation isn't as good, but still has a ton of potential, right? Verlander will be money. Bonderman is the key: he could top his 2006, or his elbow issues could continue to plague him. Willis is just a couple years removed from a near-Cy Young, but hard to say what to expect since he's been so unbelievably inconsistent from year-to-year.
I admit I don't know who will round out the Detroit rotation, as I haven't been paying much attention lately - Rogers? Robertson? Yair Yurr-yens, or whatever the hell that guy's name is? However it ends up shaking out, it's not hard to imagine a scenario where Detroit is downright nuclear. Scary.
